Greyhound Racing: The English Greyhound Derby

The Greyhound Derby may have a new home at Towcester but it is still the most eagerly awaited greyhound race of them all.

In 2017 Astute Missile became the biggest priced winner in living memory and, like the 2014 winner, Salad Dodger, he made the final without winning any of the earlier rounds of the competition.

Charlie Lister, awarded an OBE in 2011 for services to greyhound racing, has won the competition an amazing seven times and Nick Savva, famous for breeding dogs with the ‘Westmead’ prefix on four occasions.  His 1998 winner, Toms The Best became the first (and only) greyhound to do the ‘Derby double’ by claiming the Irish version nine months beforehand.
